The Book Jar

My next idea stemmed from Ms. Alex's Book Jar from Alex in Leeds. Hers is more of a personal book jar, but I turned mine into something the kids could draw from.

I tried to get books that kids may not have read already, as well as titles from all types of genres, including nonfiction and biographies. The kids LOVE picking titles out of the jar, though they often don't care that the titles are color-coded for certain age groups. Half the time, I don't think they even check them out. They just like taking a piece out, which is fine. The parents like the idea, so they try to encourage the kids to check out the books they draw.

I think it may be better if I do this again to include more information on the pieces. Right now I just have title, author, and call number. The kids generally don't get excited unless the title is really appealing. It may be wise to include keywords or a cover image to make them more interested.
